What to expect:

Pregnancies under 15 weeks are visualized much better using a vaginal approach. A transducer will be inserted into the vaginal cavity (like putting in a tampon). This is not painful. It is, at the most, uncomfortable.

Scan will be performed by the Ultrasound technologist and reviewed by a radiologist. After ensuring a complete exam has been performed, transducer will be removed. Patient will be allowed to get dressed.

A report will be given to your doctor.

Exam time: 30 minutes – 1 hour.

Ultrasound Exam - Carotid Doppler

Preparation: None

What to expect:

This is a test to look at the Carotid arteries in the neck. Patients will be brought to the Ultrasound room. History will be taken. Patient will be instructed to lie down on the bed in a position where easy access to the neck is possible. Scanning of arteries in both sides of the neck will be done. Multiple images will be taken, including checking the blood flow. It makes scanning easier if you do not chew gum, swallow excessively, or talk during the exam.

All images will be reviewed by a radiologist. When radiologist is assured exam is complete, you may leave.

A report will be sent to your doctor.

Exam time: 1 hour
